IELTS Battles — Privacy Policy

IELTS Battles ("the app") is a quiz game for IELTS Reading and Listening practice. This policy explains what we collect and why.

What we collect

• Nickname and country you enter when you start playing.
• A random device identifier created by the app and kept in your device's Keychain, so your account survives a reinstall. It is not your advertising ID and is not shared.
• Game data: your answers, scores, battle and practice history, ELO rating, league and clan activity, gems, purchases made with gems, and the avatar, frame and background you choose.
• Speaking and Writing results: the text of your Writing answers and the transcripts of your Speaking answers, with their scores and feedback, so you can review them later. Speaking audio itself is not stored (see below).
• Messages you send: friend chat messages, clan wall posts and stickers, so they can be delivered and moderated. Reported content is reviewed by our team.
• Usage events: simple in-app events (for example "battle started", "practice finished") with a timestamp, used to understand how the app is used and to improve it. They are linked to your account ID but not used for advertising.
• Purchases: if you buy gems or IELTS Battles Pro, Apple processes the payment. We receive a signed receipt of the transaction (product, date, and an anonymous transaction ID — never your card or Apple ID details) to deliver your gems or Pro benefits and handle renewals and refunds.
• Settings: your IELTS module (Academic/General Training), time zone (to reset daily goals at your midnight) and, if you allow notifications, a push notification token.
• Contact details you choose to give us: if you use Contact us, the message and the optional email address you enter.
• Basic technical logs (IP address, time of request) kept by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, for security and abuse prevention.

We do not collect your real name, phone number, contacts, location, photos or advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Listening audio is generated by us in advance; the app only records your voice when you answer a Speaking question.

AI scoring (Speaking and Writing)

When you submit a Speaking or Writing answer for scoring, your text (and, for Speaking, your recorded audio for transcription) is sent to third-party AI providers that process it on our behalf: Deepgram (speech-to-text), Groq, Google (Gemini API) and Mistral AI (scoring). We send only the answer and the task — never your nickname, device ID or other account details. Audio is transcribed and immediately discarded; we do not store recordings. Google may use content submitted through the Gemini API free tier to improve its products, which can include human review, and Mistral AI may use content submitted through its free tier to train its models. Please do not include personal information (such as your full name, address, passport or visa numbers) in your answers. You will be asked to agree to this before your first AI-scored answer, and you can withdraw by not using AI scoring.

How we use it

To run the game: matching you with opponents, grading answers, showing leaderboards, and keeping your progress. Your nickname, country flag, avatar, rating and rank are visible to other players on leaderboards and in battles.

Sharing

We do not sell or share personal data with advertisers or data brokers. Service providers process data on our behalf only to run the app: Cloudflare (hosting and database), Apple (push notifications), and the AI providers listed above (only for answers you submit for scoring). Other players can see your public profile (nickname, country, avatar, frame, background, rating, rank, band estimate), your clan membership, and messages you send them.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app, or by contacting us. Deleted data is removed from our database within 30 days.

Children

The app is intended for learners aged 13 and over.
